Canva pricing: what the AI allowance actually buys
Canva pricing charges per person per month, includes AI in the seat, then caps it with a shared monthly allowance that resets on your billing date. Canva publishes that allowance in plain numbers, which most vendors here refuse to do: 20 uses on Free, 200 on Pro, 400 on Business. What it won't publish is what a "use" costs, so the ceiling is visible and the arithmetic isn't.
Key takeaways
Canva publishes an exact monthly AI allowance per plan: up to 20 Premium uses on Free and Pro Lite, 200 on Pro, 400 on Business and Enterprise.
One "use" has no fixed size. Tool tier, prompt complexity, file size and model all change what a generation burns.
Allowances belong to individual members and never pool across a team, so a light user's balance is dead weight.
Running out throttles rather than bills. Canva adds short pauses between generations instead of charging your card.
Canva pricing in 2026
Tier | USD yearly | INR yearly | AI allowance per month
|
|---|---|---|---|
Free | $0 | ₹0 | Up to 20 Standard or Premium uses. No Ultra |
Pro Lite | Not in the US table | ₹1,590/person | Up to 20 Standard or Premium uses. No Ultra |
Pro | $144/person | ₹4,000/person | Up to 200 Premium or 20 Ultra uses |
Business | $250/person | ₹6,800/person | Up to 400 Premium or 40 Ultra uses |
Enterprise | Custom | Custom | Up to 400 Premium or 40 Ultra uses |
What Canva actually meters
Canva meters AI "uses" against one shared allowance, sorting every tool into three tiers that draw from it at different rates.
Standard covers the image upscaler, image generation and Magic Formulas. Premium covers Magic Layers, Canva Code, design and element generation, and the music generator. Ultra covers conversational design with Canva AI 2.0 and video generation. Higher tiers eat more allowance, and Canva won't say how much.
That's the gap. A count of 200 Premium uses looks like a budget until you read the qualifiers: it assumes one tool type, a simple prompt and the cheapest tool in that tier. Canva lists four multipliers on Canva AI 2.0 alone, including how many designs you reference and how big they are, so a 40-slide deck costs more than a 5-slide one. No conversion table exists.
On paid plans other than Pro Lite, AI design tools such as Magic Write, Translate, AI Voice and background removal don't touch the allowance, though unpublished fair use limits apply. Apps Marketplace generations sit outside it. Generations triggered from ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot via Canva's connectors sit inside it.
How the allowance works
Allowances are per member and they expire. Canva states outright that they aren't pooled across a team, so twenty Business seats hold twenty separate 400-use balances rather than one pot of 8,000. Nothing rolls over. Paid plans reset on the billing date, yearly subscribers included, and Canva Free resets at 00:00 UTC on the first.
AI Pass is a recurring add-on at USD $100 per person per month, priced identically worldwide even though the plans underneath are regional. It grants 40x a Pro allowance or 20x a Business one, and both multipliers resolve to the same 8,000 Premium uses. It's limited to web-managed Pro, Teams, Business and Nonprofits accounts, barred from Free, Education, Enterprise, trials, prepaid plans and app store billing. Annual subscribers can bill it monthly or annually; monthly ones only monthly.
AI top-ups are a one-time purchase for Canva Business only, each granting a block equal to your monthly allowance and expiring 30 days later. One at a time, no rollover, price not documented. Published deduction order: whichever balance expires soonest goes first.
What happens when you hit the limit
Canva throttles. It notifies you as you near the ceiling, then adds short pauses between generations so work slows rather than stops. Nothing auto-charges.
Free users hit one hard wall: Ultra tools aren't throttled, they're unavailable until the month resets. Paid plans keep Standard AI at full speed, since Standard never drew from the allowance. Business users clear the throttle with a top-up or AI Pass, Pro users with AI Pass, Enterprise and Education with neither.
One detail worth knowing before a rollout: Pro and Business trials run on the Free allowance of 20 uses, not the plan's.
